Wall Tents by Montana Canvas
Montana Canvas is located in Southwest Montana. Their wall tent designs are the result of extensive field testing by expert field staff and professional guides who rely on their products. We have used and sold their wall tents for the last 18 years. If there was a better wall tent on the market, we would carry it.
Wall Tent Standard Features
Every Montana Canvas wall tent includes the following:
- Stove jack with a weather flap in your choice of 4", 5" or 6" opening. This stove jack is designed to withstand the extremely high temperatures associated with the use of a single wall stove pipe. Standard placement is inside the front door on the left. Please let us know if you would like your stove jack in an alternate location. The 4" stove jack is round. The 5" and 6" stove jacks are oval.
- Full length ridge pole reinforcement with additional reinforcement at the gable ends. Each gable end opens to allow the use of a lodge pole frame or to set up the tent on a rope strung between two trees.
- Eaves constructed of a double layer of material, double layer of heavy duty reinforced vinyl and ¼ inch rope. Eaves designed with a flap with a row of grommets for staking out the side walls of the tent.
- End wall seams using six layers of material – double locked stitch.
- Side walls are a full 5 feet in height.
- Doors are 7'6" in height and are secured by a heavy duty, trouble-free, plastic YKK zipper with a generous weather flap that is secured by Fastex side release buckles. Tie back straps with side release buckles are also included for holding the doors open.
- The bottom edge of the tent walls is reinforced with webbing and designed with grommets instead of sewn-in stake lops to allow you to stake your tent from the inside or the outside.
- The sod cloth that attaches to the bottom edge of the tent walls extends a generous 12" to provide a weather-tight seal. Compatible with any terrain and weather condition, the sod cloth can be folded inside or extended outside the assembled tent.
- A hank of rope and tension adjusters (rope slips) are included. Stakes are not to allow you to purchase stakes of a material suitable for the ground where you will be camping.
- A storage/carry bag of vinyl and canvas.
- A video that shows you how to set up and care for your tent and a patch kit are included with every tent.
All tent materials are treated to resist mildew, retard flame and repel water. All tent materials meet the California Fire Marshall specifications. Click here for weight and price comparisons of the different materials options.
Montana Canvas Wall Tents are available in two materials: 100% Canvas and 100% Relite. Both materials are pretreated to be flame retardant, water resistant and mildew resistant and meet the California Fire Marshall specifications. Montana Canvas also offers a Montana Blend wall tent where the roof is made of canvas and the side walls of Relite.
Canvas. Canvas is the traditional material for wall tents. The canvas used by Montana Canvas is available in 10 oz and 12 oz weights (10 oz is the most popular). Because it is 100% cotton, canvas is especially good at absorbing some of the interior condensation created by drying clothes or boiling water, while also retaining heat well. The weight of canvas helps it billow less in a stiff wind. A canvas wall tent provides excellent shelter, but needs to be taken care of properly. We recommend completely drying your canvas wall tent after each use to avoid mold and mildew growth.
About Relite. Relite is available exclusively from Montana Canvas. For many outdoor camping purposes, Relite is the perfect tent fabric choice. This unique polyester-based fabric is extremely lightweight, which makes it ideal for packing in on animals and environmentally friendly, low-impact camping. Soft, pliable and easy to clean, Relite offers a tear strength and longevity as good as canvas. Because Relite is so highly durable and more resistant to destructive ultraviolet rays than other commonly used materials such as nylon, it is the choice of many outdoor enthusiasts. Relite does not grow mold or mildew. However, we do recommend that you dry your wall tent out before storage. Relite fabric does not need to be retreated for water resistance, but we advise you to reseal the seams as needed. All-Dri is provided with your Montana Canvas Relite tent or can be purchased from us.
Montana Blend. Montana Blend offers you the best of both worlds. With the majority of the tent made of lightweight Relite, the overall weight of your wall tent is substantially reduced from that of a canvas wall tent. The canvas roof provides you with a more breathable material overhead to absorb the condensation from breathing, cooking and drying clothes. Although we recommend setting up your tent to dry it out before putting it away, with a Montana Blend tent, the tent could be set up such that the roof was exposed to dry. The canvas roof gives your wall tent a more traditional look than a 100% Relite wall tent.
When choosing Relite fabric for your wall tent, we highly recommend the tan. It allows plenty of light to penetrate the tent without being too bright inside or out. It blends well in most environments and does not show the dirt as much as the white or spring green.
