The History of Outfitters Supply
Founding
On July 4th, 1986, Russ Barnett founded the original Outfitters Supply in Columbia Falls, Montana. Because of his passion for horse and mule packing, Russ’s aim was 2-fold; Make quality gear that would hold up to the rigors of back country packing and make it simple to use.
The Birth of TrailMax
In the Mid 90s Russ created the Outfitters Supply, Inc exclusive brand known as TrailMax. Starting with saddle bags, and then eventually some pack equipment and rifle scabbards, TrailMax helped put Outfitters Supply, Inc on the map.
First Catalog
In 1997, our first mail order catalog was sent to customers. This simple advertisement took Outfitters Supply, Inc from a local tack shop in Northwest Montana, to a company taking orders from all across the USA and Canada.

In the early 2000s, following the trend of so many other businesses, OutfittersSupply.com was launched. This single decision allowed our business to sell globally, while being able to hold true to our Montana roots.
Outfitters Supply Today
Today, business is still thriving and growing. We have made significant investments in our business to ensure that Outfitters Supply, Inc has a long and bright future ahead. In the spring of 2025 we relaunched outfitterssupply.com with a beautiful, brand-new, and much more user friendly website. In the last few years, we have designed dozens of new products in our TrailMax line, and introduced a handful of new Outfitters Supply products that are made here in our leather shop.
