Almost 100 years ago, two pioneers in the horse/mule packing and pack saddle business, Oliver P. Robinnett and Ray Holes, collaborated to design a new style of Decker pack saddle tree that would be superior in both fit and durability.  The end result of their hard work and attention to detail has since become the gold standard in Decker pack saddle trees.

With the intent to keep their tradition intact, this TrailMax Classic Decker Pack Saddle Tree features bars crafted out of solid cottonwood in the exact style and shape of the O.P. Robinnett and Ray Holes trees in order to fit the widest range of horses and mules.  Cottonwood has traditionally been the wood of choice for making pack saddle trees, as it is fibrous and resists cracking. In fact, many cottonwood pack saddle trees made 100 years ago are still in service today!

The TrailMax Classic Decker Tree features traditionally-shaped arches that are ideal for packing mantied loads or panniers. When using panniers with the Classic Decker Tree, we recommend adding a set of Decker hooks to make them easier to load. The arches on our TrailMax Cottonwood Decker Trees are made of powder-coated, ¾"cold rolled steel. They are attached to the bars with 6 screws that are installed in a triangular pattern to prevent any rocking or loosening.
